Metal Shutter Houses

We served as the architect of record for these eight high-design duplex units commissioned by HEEA Development LLC.  Project leader Richard DeMarco worked closely with design firm Shigeru Ban Architects and with Dean Maltz Architects on the 11-story, 33,000-square-foot mixed-use project, which includes an art gallery on the first floor.

The building has nine floors of metal shutters, which create a uniform street façade.  When the shutters are retracted, enormous 20-foot-high by 15-foot-wide bi-fold windows are revealed.  They can be opened to create a continuous floor plan between interior spaces and outdoor decks.

Patrick holds an undergraduate degree in Architecture with a minor in Graphic Design, as well as a Master of Architecture from Roger Williams University.  He gained valuable experience in design and construction processes while working with firms in Rhode Island and New York before joining MADGI Design as Architectural Support in 2021.  An avid lover of the outdoors, reading, and history, Patrick is always seeking his next adventure.  His drive to learn and embrace new challenges is evident in all his projects.  His critical eye for construction details, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail have made him an invaluable member of the MADGI team.
